Your data

lope reads a lot about your running, so here is the plain-language version of what comes in, where it sits, who can see it and how to take it back. The legal version is the Privacy Policy; the two are meant to agree.

The four sources

Runs recorded in lope

GPS location, steps and motion, and heart rate from a paired sensor, all read only while a run is recording. The result is a run with splits, pace, heart rate and the plan it was run against.

Apple Watch

Runs you start from today's plan in Apple's Workout app arrive through Apple Health. lope doesn't talk to the watch directly.

Apple Health

Runs from any app or watch that writes to Health, and, if you opt in, recovery data: sleep, resting heart rate, HRV, VO2max, respiratory rate, wrist temperature and heart rate recovery.

Strava

Your activity history and per-activity streams (heart rate, GPS, pace, cadence, altitude), laps, names and tags, and basic profile details such as units.

What's stored, and what isn't

lope keeps your runs and the analysis it computes from them (zones, drift, classification, scores), your profile and goals, your plans, your coaching conversations and your notes to the coach. Recovery data is kept while you have it switched on.

It doesn't read your Strava feed, kudos, comments, followers or messages; the Strava permission lope asks for doesn't include them. The recorded coach voice is audio bundled in the app, so nothing about your run is sent anywhere to produce it. lope doesn't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and sites.

Who sees what

  • Anthropic (Claude) powers the coach. To write your coaching, lope sends the runs, profile details and messages that request needs. Anthropic doesn't train on it. Whether your Health runs, heart rate and recovery data are included is a switch in You → Coaching; lope asks when you first open the app. Coaching you've already received can't be recalled.
  • Customer.io sends product email and records usage events. It receives your email, first name, goal, race date, run count, recent weekly mileage and events like signing up. It never receives Apple Health data.
  • Fly.io hosts the app and its database in the United States.
  • Strava sees nothing new unless you turn on sending, below. Raw Strava data (activity details, GPS streams and laps) is cached for up to 7 days and then purged, as Strava's API Agreement requires. lope keeps the analysis it computed from it.

The full third-party list, including the services behind email, maps and race search, is in the Privacy Policy.

What lope writes

Apple Health: runs you record in lope, saved when the run ends, if you allowed it. Nothing else.

Strava: only if you turn on sending lope-recorded runs, and only those runs. It's off by default. Runs that came from Health or Strava are never sent back out.

Disconnecting versus deleting

These do different things, and it's worth knowing which you want.

Disconnect Strava

In You → Connected apps. lope removes your Strava activities and their data, and revokes its own access on Strava. Your account, plans, conversations and companion stay. You can also revoke lope from your Strava settings.

Disconnect Apple Health

Syncing stops. You choose whether to delete the runs lope imported from Health or keep them. Turning off recovery data deletes the recovery data lope holds.

Delete your account

In You → Account. This permanently removes your data from lope's database, revokes lope's Strava access and deletes your Customer.io profile.

Deleting

Deletion is in the app, and it's immediate. If you'd rather not open the app, email support@lopeapp.com and we'll delete it within 30 days. Either way, the same things go: runs, analysis, profile, plans, conversations, notes and any recovery data.
